The journal has been founded initially as “The Camera” in 1897, then merged with “The photographic Journal of America” in 1923, and was published monthly in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA) until 1947 with national circulation. It was edited by Frank V. [Virginius] Chambers (1861 – 1940) who was the author of several photographic publications and editor of other periodicals.
