Meter on cover advertising the company PHOTO HILDENBRAND in Stuttgart (Germany), photographic studio. The studio was founded in 1894 by Hans Hildenbrand (1870 – 1957). Later on he received the title of court photographer. He was one of the first German photographers who worked with autochrome plates (1909); this makes him one of the early color photographers in Germany. In 1911 he founded the Color Photographic Society, which primarily distributed postcards and stereoscopic images. The series of stereoscopes that were marketed together with the corresponding device were sold under the name "Chromoplast”. The Photo Hildenbrand studio existed until 1997.
