Business stationery (unfolded letter, back of) used by ALEXIS GAUDIN (1816 – 1894) French photographer, manufacturer of daguerreotype plates and related accessories. A company established with his brother Charles [“Alexis Gaudin et frère”] was one of the largest establishments specializing in the publishing and distribution of stereoscopic photography, and viewers. The company sold views by major French and foreign photographers (e.g. Alexandre Bertrand, Jules Couppier or Claude-Marie Ferrier) in workshops in Paris and London. They also published books on photography and stereophotography (e.g. “L’Art du Photographe”, and a periodical “La Lumiere”(until 1867).
