Special postcard (viewcard, front of) issued in 1952 to commemorate the WORLD EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHY [Weltausstellung der Photographie] that was held in Lucerne (Luzern, Switzerland) 15 May – 30 July 1952. It was the first world exhibition of photography for which invited were professional photographers from all over the world. The event was organized upon the initiative of CJ Bucher Verlag AG, the publisher of the monthly magazine CAMERA. The patrons were UNESCO, the Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation and the governing councils of the canton, and the city of Lucerne. The main secretary and co-initiator of the exhibition was the Lucerne journalist and photographer Max A. Wyss. The industrial and architectural photographer Otto Pfeifer was also on the organizing committee. The exhibition photographs were displayed on Europaplatz, Inseliquai and in the Meili building, which has since been demolished. The landmark of the exhibition was the approximately 40 meter high wooden photo tower. The Swiss engineer Gianni Andreoli had built a huge rotating projector for the photo tower.
