Type: frankmark

Country: Great Britain

Date of use: 4 March 1949

Red meter on cover used by the weekly magazine PICTURE POST, an illustrated magazine issued in the United Kingdom from 1938 to 1957. It is considered a pioneering and successful example of photojournalism in the country, similar to the US’s LIFE magazine. Famous photographers like Bert Hardy, Thurston Hopkins or Francis Reiss worked for the magazine building its popularity, particularly in the time of WWII and later, during Korean War. When the journal ceased operation, Sir Edward G. Hulton, the owner of Picture Post, sold the archive to BBC in 1957.
