Item no. P2977a (postcard)

Type: cover

Country: Germany

Date of use: 16 May 1923

Business stationery (postcard, front of) used by the company NEUE PHOTOGRAPHISCHE GESELLSCHAFT G.m.b.H (NPG) in Dresden, a factory that successfully marketed bromide photographic paper production “by the kilometre”, and automatic printing of photographs and postcards, using patents and machinery from American company Rotograph of New York. The company was founded in 1894 by Arthur Schwarz (1862 – 1944) in Berlin-Schoeneberg and established with time branches in many European towns. The postage stamp on the card is a “perfin” – i. e. stamp bearing small round holes punched to form pattern of letters or marks characteristic for the firm’s name. In this case the holes create the pattern “NPG”, being an acronym of the company’s name.
