Stamp, in form of a 5-stamp pane “Wait for me Daddy/Attends moi, Papa”, showing reproduction of a photograph “Wait for me, Daddy” taken on 1st October 1940 by American photographer Claude P. “Dett” DETTLOFF (1899 – 1978), when the British Columbia Regiment marched to war. The boy, Warren “Whitey” Bernard ran away from his mother to his father, Private Jack Bernard. The picture appeared the next day in “Vancouver Daily Province”. The LIFE magazine named it “one of the best photographs of the year 1940”. It received extensive exposure and was used in war-bond drives. The photograph was also honored by a bronze statue (2014) placed at the bottom of 8th Street in Hyack Square in the City of New Westminster and, by Royal Canadian Mint, in series of three coins – $ 2, $ 3 and $ 10.
