Type: stamp

Country: Republic of Central Africa

Date of issue: 2013

Catalog number:

Stamp, from a 4-stamp set, issued to honor BATTLE of STALINGRAD during WW II. It shows the condition of a square in front of the station in Stalingrad after a raid by German air force. However, the devastation that took place did not affect the sculpture of the six children dancing around the crocodile. It surrounded a fountain called by the inhabitants "Fountain of Barmaleya" [the official name was "Children's Parade"]. The scene was photographed in August 1942 by Emmanuil Evzerikhin, a photojournalist for the TASS agency.
