Business stationery (letter, page 1) used by the company MAYALL & Co. Electric Light Studios. The company was established by John Jabez Edwin Paisley Mayall (1813 – 1901), who in 1842 travelled to the United States, where he quickly learned the daguerreotype process, which he also improved on his own. Later on, Mayall in partnership with Samuel van Loan established a studio in Philadelphia. Upon his return to England in 1846 he opened studio (Daguerreotype Institution) in London and continued making daguerreotypes until the era of Carte de Visite photographs came.
