Business stationery (cover) used by Prof. HELMER BÄCKSTRÖM of Stockholm (Sweden), the first Swedish Professor of Photography. H. Bäckström (1891 – 1964) was awarded the title in the Royal Institute of Technology [KTH – Kungliga Tekniska Höqskolan] in Stockholm. He was author of several basic books on photography and film, collector of photographica (his collection of photographs is a basis of photography collection in the Modern Art Museum [Moderna Meseet] in Stockholm, and his collection of cameras and photographic accessories is exhibited in Technical Museum [Tekniska Museet]), and the editor of the multi-volume work “Fotografisk handbok” (1958).
The letter (with US Civil Censorship marks) was addressed to Professor ERICH STENGER of Kreuzwertheim (Germany), lecturer at the Technical College Chair and Institute for Applied Photochemistry [Technische Hochschule Lehrstuhl und Institut für Angewandte Photochemie] in Berlin-Charlottenburg (Germany). E. Stenger (1878 – 1957) was a chemist, involved in photographic chemistry, inventor in that field and educator. Author of numerous books and publications on photography, and on history of photography. Also keen collector of photographs and active philatelist.
