Type: cover

Country: Austria - Germany

Date of use: 9 and 10 April 1938

Business stationery (cover) used by the company HERLANGO Photo-Gesellschaft m. b. H. in Vienna (Wien, Austria [after Anschluss of Austria by Nazi Germany]). The cover was used to commemorate by the Herlango management two big days – the cancellation dated 9 April 1938 on German stamp indicates the day of A. Hitler’s speech in Vienna, and the cancellation with date 10 April 1938 on Austrian stamp – the day of referendum to approve linking Austria to Germany (Ein volk-ein Reich-ein Führer [One nation, one empire, one leader]). The company Herlango was established in 1917 as a result of transformations of earlier companies into one, and its name was created from the abbreviations of the previous three business owners (Hrdliczka, Langer and Goldmann): HERdlitschka (German representation of the name), LANger, GOldmann.
