Stamp, of a 3-stamp set “Poets”, issued to honor CHARLES BAUDELAIRE (1821 – 1867), French poet, essayist and art critic. He became interested in photography in the 1850s and, denouncing it as an art form, advocated its return to "its real purpose, which is that of being the servant to the sciences and arts". Some of his essays were devoted to photography. The stamp presents graphic representation of a Baudelaire’s photographic portrait taken in 1862 by Etienne Carjat.
