Cover of a letter used sent to Poland. The stamp honors “Day of liberation from fascism” issued to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the end of WW II in Europe. It shows reproduction of Yevgeni KHALDEI’s [1917 – 1997] photograph of Soviet Red Army soldiers mounting national flag at the roof of Reichstag building (Third Reich parliament). The photograph was taken after the fall of Berlin in May 1945.
The letter was sent by Prof. Ladislav Paule of Zvolen (Slovakia), author of “Krajina vo fotografii”. The book was translated to Polish [“Pejzaz fotograficzny”] and to several other languages.
