Stamp of 4-stamp set issued to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the End of World War II. It shows a free graphic representation of a photograph taken on 14 August 1945 by German-born American photographer and photojournalist Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898 – 1995) at New York’s Times Square. The photograph, called V-J KISS, originally was of American sailor who spontaneously kissed a nurse in the street, upon hearing the news of the Japanese surrender. In this interpretation the image has reversed sides, sailor is replaced by G. I. soldier and added is imaginary background.
