Stamp of 7-stamp set “50TH ANNIVERSARY OF VE [Victory in Europe] DAY”. It shows a free graphic interpretation of a photograph taken on 14 August 1945 by Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898 – 1995) at New York’s Times Square. The photograph, called V-J KISS, showed American sailor who spontaneously kissed a nurse in the street, upon hearing the news of the Japanese surrender. It’s an error to use this illustration to the V-E date as the photograph was taken over 4 months later after the event here captioned.
