Type: cover

Country: USA

Date of use: 25 September 1944

Cover (with original letter) of a V-Mail correspondence (air mail). The V-Mail Service (later called just V-Mail) was adopted by the United States during World War II to keep American soldiers serving abroad in touch with their relatives or friends. The service consisted in letters written on a pre-printed forms that were then microfilmed and sent as negative films to destination places. Later on they were enlarged and copied on photographic paper, and sent in special covers to individual addressees.
The service was earlier developed by British Post and called AIGRAPH Service.
