The company was founded by Richard Hüttig (1827 - 1911) in 1862 in Berlin, and moved to Dresden five years later. It was one of the biggest camera manufactures at the end of the XIX century, and the first company in Dresden that made a single lens reflex camera (Zeus Spiegel Camera [1896]).
