Commemorative postcard (front of), one of a set of four, issued to honor “milestones” of development of aerophilately. The special cancel shows date 1870 as a year when pigeons were used to carry microfilmed messages from Britain to Paris, besieged by Prussian army. Three other cards commemorated following dates: 1850 (delivery of mail by balloon); 1911 (arrangement of aerial post by biplanes between Hendon and Windsor to celebrate the coronation of George V; 1934 (experimental rocket post). The EUR-APEX ’93 was exhibition of aero- and astrophilately in London, organized by the British Aerophilatelic Federation.
