Type: frankmark

Country: Great Britain

Date of use: 1940s

Red meter on cover used by the Post Office MARITIME MAIL. The letter was addressed to the company Real Photographs Co. Ltd., in Southport (Lancashire, Great Britain).
The Maritime Mail postmark was and still is primarily used on letters posted from Royal Naval and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels, although there are some instances of mail from merchant vessels receiving this postmark as well.
The Real Photographs Co. Ltd was publisher and supplier of aircraft photos, postcards and related publications during the 1930s – 1940s. The company was formed by Ellison Hawks, editor of “Meccano Magazine”. He cooperated with Stanley J. Rhodes, photographer who used to take this kind of photographs in 1930s and supply them to purchasers via the company.
