During the tidying up of the post-war economic chaos, in 1945 a Soviet joint-stock company “Photoplenka” was established. In addition to several other German chemical plants, the company also included the factory in Wolfen, which used to manufacture materials and chemicals for photography and cinematography. Thus, for several years (to 1953), a division of the state company, named Filmfabrik Agfa Wolfen, delivered large part of its production to Soviet Union and Poland. From 1954 it was renamed to VEB Film- und Chemiefaserwerk Agfa Wolfen.
