The company was founded by Heinrich Stoess in 1888. In cooperation with Eastman Kodak Co. of Rochester (New York, USA) a joint-venture company [Chemischen Werke Odin] was established (50:50) in Eberbach (1921) that became one of main European suppliers of gelatin to Eastman Kodak.
