It was formed in 1907 through the merger of three other periodicals – “American Amateur Photographer” (1889 – 1907), “Camera and Dark Room” (1898 – 1907) and “Photo-Beacon” (1889 – 1907). In further years it absorbed some other photographic journals and it ceased publishing in 1953 when it was purchased by Ziff – Davis Publishing Company and merged into “Popular Photography” that is still published today.
