Cover (of a registered letter to Poland) with stamps issued to commemorate personalities of Serbian culture. One of the stamps show reproduction of photograph (self-portrait of 1854) of ANASTASIJE “ANASTAS” JOVANOVIĆ (1817 – 1899), Serbian artist – painter, lithographer and photographer. In 1837 he was sent to study graphics, painting and lithography in Vienna Acedemy, backed financially by Prince of Serbia, Miloš Obrenović. During his studies he also mastered the daguerreotype technique and, after graduating from the academy, he was named the personal photographer of Prince Mihailo Obrenović (the son of Miloš Obrenović), and also the Chef of Prince Mihailo’s cabinet. He is considered as the first in Serbia who recognized photography as an art form.
