Stamp, of a 17-stamp set issued in form of a sheetlet “MILLENNIUM 1000-2000 – 20th Century 1940 – 1949). The stamp is entitled “A Russian soldier hangs the hammer and sickle atop the gutted Reichstag. The design of the stamp is based upon a photograph taken by YEVGENI KHALDEI’s (1917 - 1997) of Soviet Red Army soldiers mounting national banner at the roof of Reichstag building (Third Reich Parliament). This photograph was taken after the fall of Berlin in May 1945.
