The company was founded in 1883 by W. F. Carlton when he took over the assets of camera manufacturer William H. Walker. It designed and produced the PREMO camera. In 1899 the company participated in an unsuccessful merger of camera manufacturers. The resulting company made losses and was taken over by the Eastman Kodak Co. in 1903. The line of Premo cameras was continued after that date.
