Stamp honoring Pierre Joseph PELLETIER (1788 – 1842) and Jean Bienaime CAVENTOU (1795 -1887), French chemists commemorated for discovery of quinine (1820), the antimalarial drug. The same year they also synthesized for the first time hydroquinone, one of the basic developing agents for photography. The name of ‘hydroquinone’ was first coined by Friedrich Wöhler in 1843.
