Stamp (of 4-stamp set) issued to present Albanian artists. It honors PJETER [Pietro] MARUBI (1834 – 1903), Italian-born painter and photographer who, for political reasons, had to leave his native country and settled in Shkodra (Albania). Pjetro Marubi is considered the founder of the first photographic studio (FOTO MARUBI) in Albanian lands. The business was continued by two further generations of the family. The Marubi Photo Collection (Fototeka Marubi) in Shkodra comprises over 150,000 photos, many of which are of great historical, artistic and cultural significance.
